jacque goes to Monday Night Football

Here are some (questionable quality) BlackBerry pics from last night’s Pittsburgh Steelers-Washington Redskins beatdown on their home field before a nationally televised primetime audience. This was my first Monday Night Football game and it was a great one for me — it helps when your team is the ass kickor, and not the ass kickee.

Ah, FedEx Field. Ye lack personality.

Waiting to enter the ol' D Gate. More Steelers fans than Redskins fans, oddly.

There's something to love about an NFL team with a marching band.

By that time, only Steelers fans were in the house.

A long, long night by the time I walked all the way back to the Metro and got to Largo Town Center and then on the Beltway back to the College Park, but well worth all of it. It was probably close to 2 a.m. by the time I actually got to sleep. I’m feeling it this morning.

to my friends back home

I hope you’re enjoying the third annual “Your Governor Made Us Play You” Bowl. The Maryland contingency of the “We’re not helping ourselves, but you don’t make things better” movement refused to pay Comcast $129 to watch the game, so I’ll be glued to my BlackBerry for updates from Milan Puskar Stadium Mountaineer Field.

All of my thoughts on today’s game at East Carolina can be summed up with:

like a hockey mom

Ahh, gee, Marge.

I’m actually just putting this link out here because I’m proud. It’s obnoxious, yes, but still.

Check out Brandon’s new writing job.

He’s almost Navin R. Johnson. But seriously, it’s a fun thing for him. I’m happy he’s found a niche, of sorts, up here in the “city.”

In other news, I’m pretty sure God’s mad at me for my earlier mocking of Ohio State. To remedy the situation, I’ve switched over to Lifetime: Television for Women and I’ll watch movies about some woman getting horribly wronged by some man, no doubt starring either Joanna Kerns, Judith Light or Meredity Baxter Birney, to try to atone.

best football jersey ever

This pic comes to me courtesy of my eyes in the field, Economic Friction.

And you thought it was merely a tasty side dish.

A special thanks to my friend for all of the excellence in photography from the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Canton. The pics were very much enjoyed, sir, including the one of your hippie-hating refrigerator.

Savor your dreams

Your dream to, say, be a mascot.

Parrot

I also have a dream that one day, after 16 years, my baseball team actually has a season that ends above .500. Right now, their record stands at 7-7. I expect that to derail. Especially with their ownership. Why spend money on talent? You’ll take the kids to the ball park in the summer to buy $15 hot dogs even if the team sucks.

A link that’s almost two years old, but still relevant as this year’s Major League Baseball season gets under way:

PNC Park Threatens To Leave Pittsburgh Unless Better Team Is Built

“When I came here in 2001, they promised me a championship team,” the stadium said. “I was warned by venerable and much-beloved Three Rivers Stadium — which imploded soon afterwards, as you know — that I should look elsewhere, that this team was set in its ways and not focused on rebuilding, that they were simply using me as a means to make money,” the stadium said. “I was young and brash and I didn’t listen. Now that I am more mature and have settled a bit, I realize I have to do what is best for me and my family.”

I miss Three Rivers. They imploded it on my birthday. Apropos.

Opening Night, West Virginia Power style

Money Shot

Just look at that ticket carefully and see if anything jumps out at you.

Oh, and I have the mental capacity of a 12-year-old boy.

Hey, Dallas? You listening?

Here in the Mountain State, we got a little thing we like to call “pride.”

Chris and Pac

These are two of our best examples. These two gentlemen — on the left, Bengals receiver Chris Henry and on the right Titans safety Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones — both used to wear the gold and blue of West Virginia University. They were … sigh … one of us.

But that was a different time. A different world, even. They’ve moved on. And unleashed a trail of destruction along the way.

Chris Henry just got fired. Pacman’s been … unemployed … for a while now.

But I have hope.

Now, come on. We all know where talented charged felons go to play football, right?

Cincinnati. Nashville. DALLAS!

That’s right, Cowboys fans. I need you on Team Trouble.

Can you even imagine the economic benefit of having these two guys in YOUR town? Back together again? To unleash havoc like nobody’s ever seen. And trust me, they’re just waiting for Michael Vick to make his triumphant return so the triumvirate is complete.

Your public safety and adult entertainment industries will boom with the arrival of these two.

So, consider it. Please. We want to see them do well, and I mean, where better for charged felons with no haven to go than Dallas? You collect them like McDonald’s Monopoly pieces there.

You embrace Michael Irvin. You can embrace these two.

Just give me a heads up. I don’t want to be around when my father’s head explodes.
