a d.c. rat

I think I’ve seen this rat in West Virginia. Today, the carpenter’s union paid a bunch of homeless people to parade around across the street in front of a building that presumably uses non-union labor. I’ve heard their drumming for six hours now. I always show up in the middle of the drum solo.

This made me laugh because my ex, who is a union electrician, swears all the members of the carpenter’s union are “ratty”…

They’re back today. We’re on about three hours now of solid drumming. Gahhhhhh.

Your very own Outward Bound drum circle.

The tiresome part about this is how I lived with it in Kanawha City……problem was, there was SO MUCH union work available, there were no union guys to man the protest, necessitating the hiring of homeless dudes at sub-union wages and for some union dude to cook their lunch daily with an LP grill on site, as if they were tailgating CAMC Memorial. Shame on “some foreign doctor for building an office.”

It’s the same here. They’re back today, out in full force. I’m sure they just went to McPherson Square and rounded them up with the promise of a 10-spot and food. It’s more drum beating. More yelling. Hell, if they want to be productive, how about joining the union and actually going to work. No? Didn’t think so.

HA! I don’t know how I missed this post earlier, but am catching up now. I actually have the exact same thing in the office building across the street down here in Miami. However, they’re not allowed to have drums, so they use buckets instead. Buckets and a whistle. That and a large man who sings at the top of his lungs into a megaphone. Color me crazy! I feel your pain, sister!
