Send lawyers, guns and money

In case you haven’t been called yet — and I apologize if you haven’t … My list of people to call about this is massive.

On May 19 I start the next phase of my life. I’ve taken a job as the features editor at a major metro daily in Washington, D.C.

It’s a huge move up for me. That doesn’t mean I’m not very, very sad to leave my friends and family here. Some of my friends are being amazing. Some are being OK. Some are being downright awful.

But it was time to go. It was time to make this move. And when opportunity showed up in front of me, I had to take it. I absolutely had to take this chance.

So, I don’t know how much I’ll update — a good bit until the Mayflower truck shows up. But I wanted to get this out here and on the table.

And anybody got any tape? I’m gonna need some boxes. And tape. And a cat carrier or two. Those cats are gonna be pissssssssssed.

Not sure how old your cats are, but see if your vet can help you tranq them for the drive. When I moved from the Boondocks (babbalama) to Hell (floriduh) I tranqued mine, which made the drive very easy.
Not out all the way (so we could stop and I could let them out on the harness) but enough to that the drive didn’t panic them.
    Congratulations on your move!

Thanks! We’re excited, but we’re scared to death. I have the ability to worry myself into oblivion. But I’m gonna be OK. I’ve got a good network of people who can help me out. 🙂

Thanks for the cat advice — There are two. Walter, a five year old male and Inky, a two year old female. Walter’s a very calm animal. It’s Inky I worry about.

Ah, now who am I going to visit when I need halftime in Charleston on the way back to seminary land;)

I think this move will be great for you, both professionally and personally. A chance in scenery may be exactly what the doctor orders for you and I hope that this move brings you joy and happiness, and as minimal stress as possible come move time.

I’ll keep you in my prayers as the date of the new job approaches.

Darling, this gives me serious hope. I’ll need to think about this when I’m getting ready to throw myself in front of a truck at least five days out of the week (multiple parts of the day, sometimes)!

And D.C.? Just what the doctor ordered, I believe. A larger city with more diversity, opportunities, etc. is just what a wonderful, open-minded, spunky gal like you should have.

Don’t let those haters get to you 🙂 The people who HONESTLY love and care about you will eventually come around and see what this means to you and for you. Some may still never get it through their heads, but you’ll be cruising down the Beltway while they sulk.

I’ve been to this place multiple times before, babe. *sigh* In the meantime, I seriously agree with the previous comments about doping up your cats. I only have one (albeit, Satanic), and he rode on my dashboard — howling — the entire way out of Florida. My only other choice was to leave him in the cat carrier — not good for a kitty with a digestive disorder!

So, you need a lawyer? 😉

    Love you soooooo much!

I feel way sorry for Inky and Walter. They’re not going to be pleased.

Thanks so much, everybody. It’s been a pretty rough few days. Your positive vibes make me feel much better. 🙂

We now expect plenty of name dropping in your blog posts… After all, Elliot Spitzer’s still rich and he has a lot more time on his hands now 🙂 Congratulations…

I love Warren Zevon. Greatly. 🙂

Again, thank you all so much for the positive energy! I need it badly! I’ve got so much going on right now you can’t even imagine.

But more on that in a live report …
